Befriend Your Body

so you can love your life, access your power,
and contribute to the world of OUR dreams,
where winning means EVERYONE wins

Whether you are snuggling your kid, executing a project, going for a hike, enjoying your vacation, your body is the instrument through which you create, relate to, and experience everything in your life.

When you have an alienated or adversarial relationship with your body, it shows in all your relationships:

  • You say you're okay with things that actually bother you in order to "keep the peace" in relationships while actually feeling resentful.
  • You overextend yourself doing favors for people who rarely return the favors to you, leaving you feel undervalued and unappreciated.
  • You freeze or fawn when a boss, parent, or friend says something you object to, rather than speaking up for yourself and your values, then you fall into self criticism and wondering why you did that.
  • You struggle to take action on tasks, projects, or world events that matter most to you, while over-giving to your work or relationships that don't give back to you.
  • You spend more time doomscrolling than you want, and then you are short tempered with your family, friends, or coworkers.

It often looks like "keep on keeping on" while feeling crushed inside.

As you and your body get on the same team, you will find it easier and easier to show up every day in ways you feel great about.

As you cultivate a deep and open connection with your body, it is increasingly easy to:

  • Express what you want and need in relationships, without apology. Whether you want more quality time with a partner, more grace from a friend, adjusted expectations from a boss, or to end a conversation with a stranger, befriending your body helps you be a friend to your whole self.
  • Notice when a situation isn't right for you and find ways to leave it. This could be a big life circumstance like a job or relationship, or a smaller one off a social dynamic like a party or a fundraiser taking donations on the sidewalk. Whatever it is, as you reconnect with your body, you will naturally hear and act on your body's wisdom so you remove yourself from places that aren't right for you, and stop spending your energy putting up with what you don't want.
  • Tolerate the discomfort of waiting, so you can hold out for the right job offer or potential partner, rather than jumping at the first opportunity that says yes to you.
  • Say yes or no to requests, favors, and opportunities on the basis of what feels right for you. No more agreeing to do a favor that you'll resent, or saying yes to a friend only to flake later. By tuning into what's true for you at the body level, you will become a more steady and reliable friend, parent, partner.
  • Stay connected with yourself when your boundaries are being crossed, so rather than get triggered and spin out, you can reiterate your needs and step away in a way that feels right to you.

When you're connected to your body...

You find ways to show up in your relationships and your whole life that really work for you.

You'll be able to recognize what changes you need to make to feel good in each relationship, whether friend, family, work, or more.

And you'll trust yourself to make those changes so you start to have the kinds of relationships that nourish and sustain you.

As you show up in ways that work for you, you will become more steady, reliable, and wholehearted in all your relationships.

As you leave behind the patterns of putting yourself last, you'll be able to bring more of your best to the people and projects that are most important to you.

You can be more honest and forthright with the people you're close to, making those relationships more whole, solid, and trustworthy.

By coming home to yourself, you'll create an environment of inner approval that will lift your spirits and steady you through even the most challenging times in life.

Cultivating a deep, connected relationship with your body will allow you to hear your inner voice, so you can easily set and hold boundaries without losing your cool.

Live sessions happen most Tuesdays 12-1pm Eastern

Replays are posted within 24 hours, and usually within 6 hours, so you can attend at your convenience or revisit powerful moments anytime you want.

Befriend Your Body is rooted in and inspired by earlier collaboration called Make Peace with Your Body with Ashnie Butler, incredible culture change coach. Ashnie is one of countless BIPOC folks whose work grounds and inspires Befriend Your Body.

My body love journey has been inspired and guided by Sonya Renee Taylor, her book The Body is Not an Apology, and her extensive work in the world.

My spiritual and healing journey has been deeply influenced by Reverend angel Kyodo williams and her many offerings.

I'm grateful for all the freedom dreamers and spiritual warriors whose work informs my own.

Here's what people are saying about Befriend Your Body

"What I felt most was this giant relief. It felt easier to breathe than I had experienced earlier. During the practices, my perception of my own reserves of power and self-love shifted. I went from feeling constriction to this unfolding, an unfurling... The challenges I’m facing haven’t disappeared, but now they’re overlaid with this deeper breath." –VZ

"I'm coming away with a sense of belonging and of appreciation of my body." –KT

"Really appreciating the opportunity to feel some rest." –MM
